The dessert was watermelonFruit-flavored wines are set to become a best-seller on supermarket shelves, according to a new report.

Younger Britons have fueled a boom in fruit-flavored beers and now the wine industry is attempting to do the same with wine using the same methods.

Accolade Wines is set to introduce “fruit-fusion” wines, which will be graped-based drinks enhanced with fruit extracts, under its Echo Falls brand.

Among the flavors that are introduced already are lemongrass, mint and aloe flavor, with more to come, including watermelon.

 

According to the company, their biggest challenge was targeting a new generation of wine consumers. The growth of cider had made it harder to attract new wine drinkers to the category.

And while you might be forgiven for thinking all wine was intrinsically ‘fruit flavoured’ – being made from grapes – the new types of wine will have a much sweeter and more distinctive taste of many different fruits.
