In Phoenix, there is a unique spot where two cultures mix.

While live Latin music play on one end of the eatery, cooks mak sushi rolls with Mexican ingredients at the other.

Lalo Gonzalez is the man behind the idea of traditional Japanese sushi and Latino entertainment to create Señor Sushi.

He noticed a trend in restaurants in his home country, Mexico, which gave him the inspiration for Arizona.

“It was very interesting to see Mexican people into sushi,” he said.

On the menu, customers will find creative Mexican Sushi rolls unique names flavorful elements. From tres quesos to carne asada rolls, many even have guacamole.

“The way it’s prepared and some of the sauces we use include chile habaneros,” he said “e use a variety of ingredients to appeal to the Latino community.”

Yamas-aki is a creative item that Gonzalez came up with. The igniting plate is brought to the table and has two types of shrimp, along with langostino.IMG_1605

Each plate is made in front of the customer can choose to eat at the bar, where employees prepare the rolls by using fresh ingredients.

The eatery also shows sporting events, and t draws the audience. Every weekend the games are played on multiple TVs, where customers can enjoy watching their favorite teams and nibble on appetizers.

“Fire-crackers, which are stuffed jalapeños with crab meat, cream cheese, and spiced tuna are a big seller, but, our carne asada rolls are our number one,” Gonzalez said.

As the evening comes around, the eatery becomes a dance floor where everyone is welcome to dance along as local Latino artists perform.

As more Japanese/Mexican restaurants begin to pop up around the alley, one thing is for sure: Señor Sushiis the place to get down on the dance floor and eat traditional Japanese food with a twist.
