MMIC-header-logoMercy Maricopa Integrated Care (Mercy Maricopa) launches next week (April 1) as the new Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) for Maricopa County.  Mercy Maricopa was chosen by the State of Arizona through a bidding process to administer the contract, which is one of the largest managed behavioral health contracts in the nation.  The contract is for three years, with options for two one-year extensions.

The new RBHA contract also is drawing attention from the behavioral health community because it will initiate a new approach to integrating health care services for those who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness.  Mercy Maricopa will use unique technology, a health information exchange that will be phased-in to enable physical and behavioral health care providers to share health care information.  The focus is on the whole person – physical, emotional, lifestyle, beliefs and values – to help empower our members and their families on their path of recovery.

“Our staff has dedicated itself to making a real difference in the lives of people challenged by behavioral health issues in Maricopa County,” said Eddy D. Broadway, chief executive officer of Mercy Maricopa.  “We look forward to helping our members to achieve recovery and wellness, and we are excited about the opportunity to work with our providers to show that real integrated care between behavioral health and physical health care works.”

Mercy Maricopa is a not-for-profit, locally owned and operated health plan sponsored by Mercy Care Plan, a 28-year-old Arizona Medicaid Plan, and Maricopa Integrated Health System (MIHS), a county-wide public health care system that has been a health care safety net for the citizens of Maricopa County for 135 years.  Mercy Care Plan is sponsored by Dignity Health and Carondelet Health Network.  Both Mercy Maricopa and Mercy Care Plan are administered by Aetna Medicaid.

Effective April 1, 2014, Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care will serve as the RBHA for Maricopa County.
