Former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. once again will fight Bryan Vera. This time the fight will take place in San Antonio, TX at the Alamodome on March 1st. The bout will be a 12 rounder at 168 lbs.
Chavez and Bryan’s first fight took place September 28 of last year, Chavez Jr. won by a very controversial decision.
This coming fight is expected to be a different one in all aspects. First of all back in September Chavez Jr. did not make the weight. This time around if Chavez does not make it at 168 lbs., $250,000 dollars of his purse will be given to Vera; additionally he would also have to pay a fine to the Texas Boxing Commission.
Chavez Jr. (47-1-1, 32 KO) has assured his fans that he will give them a better fight than the one back in September. On the other hand Vera (23-7, 14 KO) is expecting to win the fight, as he surprised everyone in the first match. Vera expects to beat his opponent convincingly.
“I know that expectations prior to my first fight against Vera were that it would be an easy fight for me, but it did not turn out that way for many reasons. But I won’t make any excuses. I know that I owe the fans a great performance, and that is what they will get — a great performance on March 1,” said Chavez Jr.
Experts are not convinced that Vera will have an easy time against Chavez Jr. and are predicting that if he is to beat the Culiacan native, it will have to be by knock out.
Chavez Jr. loves the venue (San Antonio) for the upcoming rematch. In 2010 he fought and beat John Duddy in what he calls his “breakout” fight. A year later he won his first championship match. He mentioned that he is looking forward to fighting at the Alamodome. In 2012 he also won in San Antonio by beating Marco Antonio Rubio.
