Tucson, AZ – It has been almost six months since Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez lost to Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Alvarez is going back to the ring, this time to face Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo.

The event will take place March 8 at the MGM in Las, Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo was expected to fight Miguel Cotto, instead Cotto will fight middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in June.

“Alfredo is a strong fighter, he is a very good fighter, he is a fighter that comes forward and he comes to fight,” said Canelo as he described “El Perro” Angulo.

The 31-year-old veteran, Angulo has a record of 22 – 3 with 18 KO’s he lost to Erislandy Lara last June.  Alvarez comes into this fight with a record of 42 – 1 – 1 with 30 KO’s.

“I will give my best in the ring against Canelo as I always have in my fights,” mentioned Angulo, “I have earned the respect because of the way I approach all my fights and this time will be no different,” he added.

The pay-per-view card will also feature junior featherweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz (26-0-1, 15 KOs) against former two-time junior bantamweight titleholder Cristian Mijares (49-7-2, 24 KOs).

Lightweight titlist Omar Figueroa (22-0-1, 17 KOs) of Weslaco, Texas will defend his title against Canelo’s older brother Ricardo Alvarez (23-2-3, 14 KOs).

Canelo is hoping for a successful comeback as he is trying to put behind his loss against Mayweather.  It is also a very important fight for “El Perro” Angulo since he is already 31 years old and is trying to stay on top his game.

By all means Angulo is a worthy fighter, although it came as a surprise contender since it was thought that Carlos Molina or Erislandy Lara would be Canelo’s next opponents.
