Stylos Awards Features an Abundance of Fashion Trends
By Taylor Pineda
The Annual Stylos Awards, which is made possible thanks to the Isaac Amaya Foundation, year by year reminds us of the power fashion and entertainment can project into our communities.
Hosted at the Phoenix Art Museum on November 22nd, the show embraced the Latino arts to portray the importance of higher education and community activism. The museum’s galleries were covered in pieces by influential Latino artists, and featured eclectic sounds of various music groups such as Bad Catus Brass Band and Los Waukis Andinos.
The awards ceremony was truly a celebration of Latin culture and accomplished Latinos in the valley.
Opening the show was an artistic dance piece by Liliana Gomez & Dancers, the performance reminded audience members to keep in touch with their roots.
The MCs’ of the evening were Ernesto Ortiz and Valeria Fernandez, whose chemistry lit up the room.
Several awards were given out including Activist of the Year, Best Band, Project of the Year, and Personality of the Year, where personalities were nominated and voted upon by the community.
Elaborating on the arts of the event was the fashion show, which featured Glamour Academia de Moda, Dica Tutus, ABV HVN and Paulie Gibson. The urban show exposed local and upcoming talent that strutted unique looks down the runway. Everything from the use of traditional Mexican garments and textures, to chic club attire.
Attendees at the show were also dressed to impress despite the rainy weather. Friends Selena Palma, Marcia Moyos, and Areli Parra received recognition from AZLatinos.com as best dressed, stunning in Vince Camuto. They encourage other fahsionistas to keep it classy, nice, and simple.
